Welcome to the Mae Cendaña Torlakson for Ambrose Recreation and Park District Board web site! As a mother of two children, a cyclist, and avid walker, I know how valuable great recreational programs and facilities are to a community.
As your representative, I have focused on involving and communicating regularly with our Ambrose District citizens and families. Working with my fellow board directors and supporters like you, we have obtained millions more in funds from the county, the state, East Bay Regional Park District, and the City of Pittsburg to expand services to the people of the district. Below are some of my accomplishments:
- I fought to secure $1.7 million for the improvement of our largest park—Ambrose Park.
- I pushed for more programs at the recreation center that benefit youth, adults and seniors.
As your elected Park Board member, I fought for waterfront access and the completion of the long-awaited Bay Point Shoreline Park and worked hard to obtain millions of additional funding for this project.
- As the Chair of the Great California Delta Trail, I led in the advocacy for a dedicated bike and walking trail in East Contra Costa County and helped obtain $4.5 million for the construction of this trail --- to be started in Bay Point.
- I organized the Bay Point Spring Derby (Parade and Festival). For the past three years, this event has brought together local businesses and thousands of our residents to celebrate the diverse cultures of our community. It is scheduled on Memorial Day with a special ceremony to commemorate the sacrifices of our veterans.
- As the president of the Bay Point Garden Club over the past 5 years, I led in the efforts to create the Ambrose Community Garden. The garden encourages residents to plant their own produce and share the abundance of the land with neighbors. We also do beautification projects to enhance our community.
Despite the incredible challenges of these difficult times, our Ambrose District was able to quadruple its reserves and increased its class offerings. We also renovated our community and teen center and opened a community garden.
I work tirelessly to bring positive changes to our district! It has been a pleasure to encourage and guide the creation of effective partnerships with many civic groups, public agencies, and businesses in our community. But there is still much more to be done!
I hope you will vote for me on November 2 so I can continue to serve you and the rest of Bay Point's and Oak Hills' wonderful residents. You can see who has endorsed my campaign, and please feel free to contact me to provide your ideas and suggestions for how the Ambrose Recreation and Park District can serve you. I would be honored to have your support and endorsement!
